DAVIS Continues To Prioritize Community Outreach in 2019

Dec 23, 2019

Serving our community is a crucial part of DAVIS’ values and will always be essential to our culture. We’ve worked with and supported organizations and non-profits throughout the DC metro area for more than 50 years because the heart of our mission is to build success for all. This year we continued to provide outreach with our partners, and we worked to further relationships with organizations like the American Heart Association.

We’re proud to have a continued impact throughout the DC metro area with our active involvement and support of the following charities, nonprofits, and fundraising events. In addition to financial contributions and extensive in-kind donations, our employees and interns volunteered their time to over 75 organizations and philanthropic initiatives in 2019.

American Heart Association

DAVIS has been a proud partner of American Heart Association for nine years, and we took that partnership a step further this year with our participation in the AHA Greater Washington Heart Walk fundraising event in support of the fight against heart disease and stroke. The DAVIS team received 134 donations throughout the day and raised nearly $30,000, in addition to the $32,500 raised at the annual Charity Golf Tournament. DAVIS’ Mike Pittsman joined the Executive Leadership Team for this year’s Heart Walk.

Calvary Women’s Services

DAVIS continues to support Calvary Women’s Services through financial, pro bono, in-kind and volunteer services with DAVIS’ Kate Attilio serving on the Board of Directors. This local organization empowers homeless women in DC to transform their lives through housing, health, education, and employment programs. DAVIS volunteers helped prepare a new Calvary housing facility for move-in by painting, washing windows, changing out hardware and performing other cleanup tasks.

DCBIA Community Improvement

Each year, hundreds of industry employees come together with the DC Building Industry Association to revive a public gathering place for an underserved neighborhood. In September, a team of DAVIS volunteers participated in DCBIA’s annual Community Improvement Day (CID) at Oxon Run Park in Congress Heights. DAVIS volunteers came together with industry peers to help repair the park, a major community asset, by installing new gathering areas, landscaping, and adding art touches. DAVIS’ Steve Hawryluk served as President of DCBIA Community Services Corporation for the second consecutive year.

DAVIS Annual Charity Golf Tournament

DAVIS’ Fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament took place in September with 136 participants representing over 36 long-time partners and subcontractors. With the help of generous sponsors, we raised over $65K this year. The proceeds were donated to longstanding partners Calvary Women’s Services and the American Heart Association.

We’re so grateful to DAVIS for their support in ensuring that women have the resources they need to achieve their goals.

Jubilee Housing

We were proud to work with our long-time friends at Jubilee Housing again this year. We provided holiday gifts for 26 people from six different families through the Jubilee Housing Wish List initiative and volunteered for the Elf Store, providing children of Jubilee Housing the opportunity to buy gifts for their family at a significantly reduced cost. DAVIS employees volunteered their time, and as an organization we donated gifts to the store.

Nourish Now

For the second consecutive year, DAVIS has partnered with local Montgomery County nonprofit Nourish Now. Along with company-wide food collection and donation, 28 volunteers spent a day packaging holiday meals with Nourish Now team members in November. Leading up to the holidays, DAVIS donated turkeys to families in need. The organization’s mission is to alleviate hunger in Montgomery County by collecting unused fresh food and redistributing to dedicated food donors throughout the area. Through their work, they are able to feed thousands of residents each year.

Samaritan Inns Fundraising Breakfast

For the sixth consecutive year, President and CEO Jim Davis teamed up with Mike Alto, Senior Vice President of Clark Construction Group, to co-host the Samaritan Inns fundraising breakfast on December 6, 2019, held in Arlington, VA. In partnership with Clark Construction Group, DAVIS raised over $45,000 so far in 2019, and donations are expected to continue to come in through the New Year. Samaritan Inns provides services, rehabilitation programs, and shelter for people and their families recovering from addiction and homelessness.
