Project Brief

The Arlington, Virginia-based government IT contractor, CACI Federal, is one of Fortune magazine’s World's Most Admired Companies. The firm has earned this distinction not only for its mission-critical professional excellence, but also for its commitment to its employees. We were selected by CACI to build a new workspace that would be highly secure, comfortable, and family-friendly. Working in the DC metro area, state-of-the-art secure facilities are right in our wheelhouse, but one with an on-site daycare was definitely a first.

Hear More About It

This is a firm that clearly cares about their employees, so we created a high-end space that has something for everybody. From a first-class fitness center to a chef-worthy cafeteria, this is a building that not only meets SCIF government standards but also complies with ADA requirements for a childcare space.

Secure Flexibility with Rapid Delivery

CACI couldn’t wait to welcome employees to the new facility which, for us, meant an extremely aggressive schedule for a job that had many different — and challenging — aspects. In less than six months, we built out seven floors in two adjacent buildings and provided a high-tech Sensitive Compartment Information Facility (SCIF) space, media and training centers, general offices and conference rooms, a full-service kitchen and café, a fitness center, hoteling for out-of-town visitors, and a daycare center complete with an outdoor playground. To keep this fast-paced project on schedule, we coordinated closely with the base building contractor and provided creative solutions that worked around gaps – like transporting the flooring materials with a crane before elevators were in place.

The high-tech A/V and the SCIF components are top-of-the-line and the entire space includes high-end features: bamboo panels, stone walls, lacquer ceilings, color-stained concrete flooring, Viabizzuno ceiling-edge detail with concealed lighting, raised-access floors, and 3Form® doors. CACI's proven commitment to employee work-life balance, transit-accessible location, and use of sustainable materials earned the new facility a LEED Silver® certification.

Setting the Standards for Modern Workplaces

Back in 2009, CACI was among the first area employers to offer childcare on site. In fact, the practice was so novel that we worked with the county building inspector to get up to speed on the latest codes required. We built the CACI facility in accordance with two building codes simultaneously — one for top-security offices with soundproofing and high-tech lighting fixtures, and the other for a bright open space with a playground and tiny toilets. The process was challenging, to be sure, but also a lot of fun.
