George Mason Academic Building IIIA
Project Brief
We are in the business of building for a purpose — and there is a great sense of purpose in education projects. With George Mason Academic Building IIIA, our mission was to provide an enriching academic environment where students and professors could expand upon their scientific knowledge and shape their own horizons. As the third facility on George Mason’s Science and Technology Campus, this project marked a turning point in the university’s expansion of its biology and chemistry departments. It also signified a milestone for DAVIS, as this building was the first large-scale laboratory facility we constructed for a higher education institution.

Building a Brighter Future
From an architectural perspective, this cast-in-place concrete structure features an interior atrium, brick façade, and a high-span steel frame supporting a glass curtainwall at the front entry. The building interior is well-lit with natural light, complete with airy gathering spaces to foster a collaborative, comfortable atmosphere for years to come.
Our team finished on time and classes began on schedule. The new facility revitalized the campus — and the modern, state-of-the-art laboratories became a major selling point for George Mason’s science department.
