Employee Education Week at DAVIS

At DAVIS, we offer the best industry expert-taught courses internally and externally and have been recognized as a Champion of Talent Development by the Association for Talent Development (ATD) for the past nine years. We’re firm believers in DAVIS teaching DAVIS, as evidenced by the fact that over a quarter of our employees currently teach, or have taught, classes through the Corporate Knowledge Center (CKC). In recognition of ATD’s Employee Education Week (December 5-9), we’re featuring some of our expert educators.

Safety Success

Safety is our #1 priority at DAVIS, on and off the project site. We have the most qualified individuals managing our award-winning safety programs. Among our many DAVIS safety experts is Jason Kibler, Safety Manager, who came to DAVIS in 2014.

Prior to joining our team, Jason taught numerous safety courses for a variety of clients including hospitals, universities, and manufacturers. Shortly after his arrival, Jason began teaching the OSHA 30 hour course and in 2015 became DAVIS' primary certified CPR + First Aid instructor, which had previously been taught by an external instructor. Jason is also an expert in confined space entry, hazardous material removal, and spill response. Having an in-house expert, readily available to provide safety training and procedure guidance, ensures that our project sites offer the safest and healthiest space for workers and visitors alike.

“Sharing my knowledge and training, increasing hazard recognition + resolution, and preparing my colleagues to act in case of emergencies has helped create a leading corporate safety culture at DAVIS. I'm really proud to be a part of it.”

-Jason Kibler, Safety Manager, DAVIS

LEEDership

Will Cox joined our team in 2008 as a project engineer after interning at DAVIS for three years. He now serves as an industry-leading Senior Project Manager, having successfully managed numerous LEED®-certified projects including the National Cancer Institute and 900 G Street NW, both of which achieved gold certification.

Sustainable construction is a priority at DAVIS and it's something that Will developed an interest in very early during his career. He understands the importance of energy efficiency + waste elimination throughout the entire construction process. Shortly after joining DAVIS, he earned his LEED® AP BD+C accreditation. In 2012, he began teaching sustainable practices and sharing his knowledge at the DAVIS Annual Conference with “LEED® Project Reporting." He has taught every year since, sharing his expertise in all things sustainability, from stormwater management systems to tilt panel construction. He has also presented at regional industry events and guest-lectured at East Carolina University and Virginia Tech through the DAVIS CKC University Partnership Program.

"Every time I teach, it's an opportunity to share lessons that I've learned along the way - some of which aren't always easy, but I look at it as a way to help others improve and be the best that they can be at what they do."

-Will Cox, Senior Project Manager - LEED AP BD+C, DAVIS

Teaching Technology

Julien Bartolo, Senior Virtual Construction Manager, came to DAVIS in 2005 with a life-long passion for construction + technology. Responsible for managing all project-related virtual construction (VC) activities, he works directly with project teams to execute VC plans. Julien has provided coordination and software expertise for countless projects, including Constitution Center and The JBG Companies Headquarters.

In 2011, he began sharing his passion and knowledge through education, teaching a modeling course at DAVIS. Since then, he’s taught 10 courses at DAVIS from an all-encompassing "VC 40-Hour" to software-specific "Introduction to Trimble Sketchup." Julien also lends his expertise to the construction community externally, most recently partnering with Leica Geosystems for a Point Cloud Webinar and presenting at Autodesk University 2016 in Las Vegas with “Introduction to 3D Reality-Capture Technology.” In addition to his work at DAVIS, he volunteers with other industry experts to teach a 2-day annual “Introduction to Construction” course at Phelps High School, which he says is an absolute blast!

"It's so rewarding to share my experience and industry knowledge with others. When you're passionate about what you do, teaching comes naturally."
