An Internship Redefined
This summer, we welcomed 28 new and four returning interns, representing seven universities!
DAVIS360
At DAVIS, interns receive real-world construction experience during their 12-week internship. From the first day, our interns are a part of the family at DAVIS and are fully immersed in the entire construction process, from RFIs and submittals to project punch lists. This year, 20 interns worked as members of project teams on our largest projects including 655 New York Avenue and 2000 L Street. Twelve others were located in our Rockville office working with Project Management on other notable projects and within our EHS, Virtual Construction, and Estimating Preconstruction departments.
You’re collaborating with the best professionals in the industry throughout every step of the construction process, so you are constantly learning and gaining real-life professional experience.
– MaryKate Selgrath, Catholic University of America
It’s not just about work at DAVIS, we make sure to mix in a healthy amount of fun too. In addition to their day jobs, our interns had a full schedule of social events including an evening baseball outing, a pool party at an Executive Vice President’s home, the “DAVIS Amazing Race” and a DC Segway tour. They also participated in some important and meaningful work in our local community by volunteering for the 28th Annual JDRF Real Estate Games and picking up litter on the streets in our surrounding neighborhood.
Getting Social with @theDAVISintern
For the second summer in a row, interns were invited to take over the @theDAVISintern Instagram account to share their experiences as an intern. Fourteen interns took control of the account for one week each. They shared a variety of on-the-job insight along with amazing photos and videos of all the fun. For an inside look at a week-in-the-life of a DAVIS intern, visit @theDAVISintern here.
In Good Company
During their final week, the interns were asked to present in front of a room full of their project teams and senior leadership. The presentations allowed them to share and reflect on their experiences throughout the summer, including technical aspects of their project they learned. Each presentation ended with project team members sharing fun facts and stories about their interns. It’s a great way to wrap up a summer full of hard work!
I had an amazing summer and learned from great mentors in a program designed specifically for us!
– Michael Donovan, Penn State
