Project Brief

Our clients are our foundation. We pride ourselves on our ability to build lasting, trusting relationships — which is exactly what the Advisory Board Company does for its members. This notion comes into play with our recent renovation of the Advisory Board Company’s Lobby East.

The Advisory Board Company wanted to translate its dedication to its members into the headquarters’ physical space and architectural design. Our team brought this unique vision to life through several projects, one of which included the rare removal of a load-bearing first-floor concrete column.

Making Room for Learning

Education and collaboration are primary components of the Advisory Board Company’s mission. Because of this, the organization’s leadership wanted a place to gather their members for conferences and open-space training. There was only one problem: they wanted this auditorium-style room and collaborative area to be constructed on the building’s existing first floor — where there was a massive, load-bearing concrete column.

The removal of such a column was an extremely rare, high-risk operation, requiring the utmost precision and meticulous attention to detail. In other words, this was the perfect challenge for our DAVIS team. To redistribute the building’s weight without using an obstructive column, we installed two 30,000-lb steel plate girders.

The result? This move cleared the way for a sizable training facility within the designated footprint. The project is registered LEED Silver®.

In addition to the new auditorium, our renovations included the creation of four new conference rooms, new restrooms, an expansive multipurpose room, huddle and telephone rooms, an executive pantry, A/V and IDF closets, and a new client reception area.
