Interior renovation of an office space

Project Brief

DAVIS’ large, complex renovation of the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream (MCAAD) included construction to modernize and update finishes and layouts, plus the install the latest technology which will embody MCAAD's values and give life to exhibits, programs and conferences. The project includes new MEP systems, elevators, and egress stairs, as well as a full restoration of the existing stone/masonry façade. Additionally, DAVIS completed structural modifications to infill the existing courtyard and re-build floors 9-10 to align floor levels with the adjacent building, as well as infrastructure for a media studio, commercial kitchen, offices, data center, and private club.

Built on a Stronger Foundation

What appeared to be a straightforward renovation revealed hidden complexities beneath the surface — undocumented framing and an uncharted foundation layout. Our team met the challenge head-on, installing micropiles deep into the ground to reinforce the foundation and support new structural loads. Working within the tight confines of the basement, we engineered a creative solution: drilling the micropiles from upper floors down. Safety and quality never wavered.

Adapting to Any Situation

Historic structures don't always follow the plan, and neither do the projects built around them. As the scope evolved, we maintained a close partnership with the owner to keep the project on track, ultimately overhauling the shoring plan from its original design after thorough on-site engineering review. Honoring the building's historic character while modernizing its systems required precision in tight quarters.
