Project Brief

In the heart of the bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood, 1771 N Street stands out as one of the most unique buildings in DC, demanding the attention of those around it. The design balances the existing structure and renovation to create a trophy-class LEED Gold building with a truly unique identity. We repositioned the building, built in 1967, to meet modern needs—abundant natural light, magnificent views, and an expansive courtyard create an unparalleled workplace experience, while preserving the original design’s crescent shape. Developed by Stream and designed by HOK, 1771 N Street is a one-of-a-kind office space that blends sustainability and innovation.

Finding precision within the curve.

The curved glass wall at 1771 N Street is a standout, creating an aesthetic like no other by its framing, with travertine bookends that define the building’s unique set-back from Connecticut Avenue and opens up the previously solid corner. Crafting the wall, however, was no easy task—the curved units presented a challenge for our project team. We not only curved the glass on the curtain wall, but the mullions, stool trim, and shadow boxes as well, to create a seamless look.

We pride ourselves on creating exciting spaces, and 1771 N Street is in a class of its own. From the elegant marble lobby to the outdoor terrace, this building is an extraordinary re-imagination. We were inspired by the original design by Mills, Petticord & Mills and the 1995 renovation by Kubek Architects,  and could not be more proud of the result.
