Whitman-Walker Health Max Robinson Center
Project Brief
For over 40 years, Whitman-Walker Health has provided critical care to Washington, DC and expanded access to quality healthcare within the LGBTQ+ community. Offering a wide range of services in education, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, Whitman-Walker has created a welcoming, inclusive space that truly defines what it means to care for others with compassion and respect.
In a joint venture with GCS-SIGAL, DAVIS completed an interior fit out for the Max Robinson Center, a new facility named after the first Black journalist in the U.S. to pass of AIDS complications. Located on Parcel 17 of the historic St. Elizabeth’s campus, this center is a crucial healthcare hub for communities east of the Anacostia River.
The clinic is designed to be both comfortable and healing, with more than 60 modern exam rooms, eight dental chairs, and 12 spacious behavioral health suites to accommodate a range of services. Spaces equipped to support important cancer, and AIDS research will benefit Whitman-Walker's mission-driven work.
A standout amenity is the large terrace offering sweeping views of the city—a peaceful retreat where patients and staff can enjoy the outdoors in a serene setting. The project also includes a beautiful outdoor park above an underground stormwater management system, and 8,000 SF of leasable retail space, convenient spaces for both patients and the surrounding community.
